Have you ever felt a deep stirring in your soul, like a gentle but persistent nudge saying, “There’s more for you”? It’s that longing for belonging, identity, and to discover your purpose in life.

I’ve felt that pull too—stronger at some times than others. It can feel exciting, but if we’re honest, it can also feel overwhelming. Where do you even start when you’re unsure what your purpose looks like or how to live it out?

Here’s the good news: You don’t need all the answers today. To discover your purpose is, I’m going to dare to say, is a life-long ‘in-the-doing-of-things’ journey of discovery, and it begins with one simple step—starting. It is something that reconfirms itself to your heart and mind over and over, it shifts and redefines, it expands and takes you deeper.

The 3 Stages of Awareness to Discover Your Purpose

An important fact about creating a framework to look at an idea is that it is not written in stone. It’s merely a way of understanding what could be going on on our path for clarity. Some of us move through these three stages on our way to living a life of purpose, while others just do it without the struggle. Each stage teaches us something valuable and draws us closer to who we’re meant to be.

Stage 1: Curious but Confused

This is the stage where I spent a lot of time. You feel restless, like something’s missing, but you can’t quite figure out what it is. Your mind is full of questions, and it’s frustrating not having clear answers.

Stage 2: Knowing but Hesitant

Once I began to sense my purpose, I moved into this stage—and I stayed here longer than I’d like to admit. I had an idea of what I wanted to do, but fear, doubt, and procrastination held me back. The gap between my dream and my current reality felt enormous.

Stage 3: Living with Purpose

Eventually, I reached the stage of taking action. It didn’t happen all at once, but as I stepped out in faith and committed to growth, the path became clearer. Living with purpose doesn’t mean you have it all figured out, but it brings fulfilment, joy, and peace knowing you’re aligned with God’s calling.

Reflections on My Journey

Looking back, I can see how much I learned in each stage of the wrestling to discover my purpose. When I was stuck in confusion, I felt like I was wasting time. But those moments taught me to lean on God and seek His direction.

When I hesitated to act, I discovered that clarity often comes after we take the first step. God doesn’t always reveal the entire path, but He provides enough light for the step right in front of us.

I also learned the importance of surrounding myself with the right people—mentors, coaches, and friends who encouraged me and helped me see possibilities I couldn’t see on my own.

This journey taught me something powerful: Your purpose isn’t something you have to create—it’s something you uncover by walking it out.

The Path Becomes Clear as You Walk It

One thing I’ve learned is that purpose isn’t about knowing every step—it’s about taking the next one. When I started reflecting on these questions, I didn’t have all the answers. But as I kept moving forward, the path became clearer.

I realised that purpose isn’t a destination. It’s a journey of faith, growth, and discovery. The more you align with God’s calling, the more clarity and confidence you’ll gain.

Encouragement for the Journey

If you’re feeling unsure or hesitant, let me encourage you: You don’t have to figure this out alone. Talk to someone you trust, journal your thoughts, or spend time in prayer. God has placed desires and dreams in your heart for a reason, and He’s with you every step of the way.

I love this verse from Proverbs 16:9:
“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”

Your purpose is closer than you think. It’s not about being perfect or having all the answers—it’s about being open, curious, and willing to take the next step.
