Recently, a woman confided in me, “I’m about ready to give up.” Her words carried the weight of exhaustion and frustration, and the people around her responded with sympathy: “I don’t blame you—it’s so hard.”

We’ve all been there—feeling overwhelmed, out of energy, and unsure if we can keep going. There might be a lot of different reasons we reach that place but the intensity of the feeling is like no other. It’s so hard to see a way out of it.

But here’s the critical truth: the decision to not give in to that thought is crucial. That feeling of being ready to give up is something that can be overcome. It can removed and replaced with optimism and clarity. Your life is too precious to give into the lie that is tied into that feeling.

When You’re Ready To Give Up – Don’t!

There have been times when I have been absolutely ready to give up – on everything. Looking back I can say I’ve experienced those emotions at a number of places in my life;

  • as a young mother of 3 kids under 4. I’ve never experienced anything so challenging in my life;
  • when my marriage just felt so hard I struggled to find a reason, besides kids, to stay the course;
  • all those times I cried out to God to help and felt like it was such a waste of time, as if He never heard me or came with help;
  • for those moments of deep anxiety when the bills are piling up and I did’t know how things were going to change;
  • when I felt so alone because people I’d considered friends and family had removed themselves from my life.

I know I’m not the only one to have gone into the depths of pain that make you feel ready to give up. Friends have told me they’ve felt the same. Clients have shared have they’ve reached the point where they can’t go on. It’s a part of life it seems, and it’s in that place that I discovered it’s up to you to choose your next steps.

Please don’t feel like you’re alone

I’m here to say you don’t have to be in that place alone. You are never truly alone because the scripture tells us that ‘He will never leave you nor forsake you‘. (Deuteronomy 31:8; Hebrews 13:5). However, in addition to God, I’m in your corner – don’t give up!! That spirit of God that is in me right now, as I write this for you, is praying that you experience his great power and hope that will change your life forever)

It requires digging deep and choosing not to let emotional weariness rule your life. And there’s something you need—a vital element that will carry you through tough times and keep you on course.

The Key to Overcoming: Vision

When you look at people who seem to accomplish so much in life, it’s easy to wonder: How do they keep going? How do they go from strength to strength while I feel stuck?

The most transformative answer lies in a powerful, life-changing concept: vision.

Vision is the foundation that keeps you anchored when everything around you feels uncertain. It’s the driving force that propels you forward, even when circumstances seem impossible. Without vision, life can feel like a never-ending cycle of frustration and stagnation.

‘Which hope we have as an anchor for the soul, sure and steadfast….’ Hebrews 6:19

What Does Having a Vision Mean?

Vision is more than a goal—it’s a complete picture of your purpose and calling. It’s the big picture that encompasses your heart, soul, and spirit. Vision gives your life direction, resilience, and meaning, helping you navigate challenges with clarity and determination.

Some definitions of vision include:

  • A vivid, imaginative anticipation of the future.
  • The power of seeing what may come to pass.
  • A concept, thought, or supernatural revelation.

As Proverbs 29:18 says:
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.”

The Hebrew word for vision, chazon, refers to a dream, revelation, or oracle. It’s a God-given insight into your purpose and destiny, one that keeps you grounded when life feels chaotic.

Why Does Having a Vision Matter if You’re Already Feeling Ready to Give Up?

A vision isn’t just about you—it’s about a bigger picture. It connects you to something greater than yourself and inspires you to take action, even when the path isn’t clear. It means you are valuable to it’s outcome and you have a reason to push forward.

Without vision:

  • Life becomes reactive rather than purposeful.
  • Challenges feel overwhelming and insurmountable.
  • There’s a lack of direction, leading to frustration and despair.

With vision you:

  • Gain clarity about your purpose and direction.
  • Build resilience to face challenges with confidence.
  • Make decisions aligned with your goals and values.

How Do You Discover Your Vision

You can create a vision for your life, but the most powerful vision is one that God births in your heart. A God-given vision aligns your desires with His plans, filling your life with meaning and purpose.

Here are steps to help you discover and cultivate your vision:

Spend Time in Prayer and Reflection

Ask God to reveal His purpose for your life. Be intentional about seeking His guidance and listening for His voice. Jesus told us that he had to leave so that the Holy Spirit could come upon many. He would be a comforter, a teacher and help you know the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2). Ask. Seek. Knock. And above all, believe God hears you even when you don’t feel like it.

Write Down Your Dreams and Desires

What excites you? What breaks your heart? Often, these are clues to the vision God has placed within you.

Seek Gods Purposes Through Scripture

God’s Word is the ultimate source of clarity and direction. Meditate on verses like Proverbs 3:5-6, which remind us to trust in Him to direct our paths.

Honestly, vision is not about YOU. It’s about what God has called you into – the concept is way bigger than just what you want to see happen in life. It’s a reason to push forward where you are needed to participate in something bigger than yourself.

Surround Yourself with Supportive People

Vision is not something you carry alone. Connect with others who share your values and can help you stay focused and encouraged. Remember those words that Jesus said:

18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:18-20)

Take Action

Vision without action is just a dream. Start taking small, practical steps toward what God has placed on your heart. Again we can look to scripture that tells us:

‘Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone’ James 2:17.

Sometimes the very reason you can get stuck and starting thinking you’re ready to give up is because you’ve forgotten that faith requires action. You need to get into the doing of what God has commanded. That’s when you get so busy seeking more understanding and knowledge on how to do that than you do staying in your feelings of despair.

What Is The Transformative Power of Vision?

A vision from God isn’t stagnant—it grows and evolves as you mature and deepen your relationship with Him. It gives you something to hold onto when life feels uncertain and inspires you to keep moving forward.

I’ve experienced this firsthand. The vision that God revealed to me has carried me through raising three children, strengthening my marriage, traveling the world, going into different businesses, leadership, speaking with confidence, and helping others grow. It’s been my anchor during tough times and my guide when I felt lost.

Vision isn’t just about achieving success or living comfortably—it’s about stepping into the life God has called you to. It’s about aligning with His purpose and becoming a light in the world.

Why Is It Important For You To Have A Vision For Success?

If you’ve been feeling stuck, frustrated, or ready to give up, it’s time to seek clarity. Vision is what will keep you grounded and motivated to move forward. It’s what will help you define what success looks like for you, as a faith-driven person that wants to live the life God has called you lead.

It’s not enough to simply go to church, be good, or pursue personal goals. God has a bigger plan for you—one that will enable you, excite you, and transform your life in ways you never imagined. this is what shifts you from being ready to give up, into ready to do and believe big things.

‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.’ (Jeremiah 29:11).

Ask God for a vision that aligns with His purpose. Spend time reflecting on who you are, what you’re called to do, and how you can make an impact. When you align with His vision, anything is possible.
